Wood Drying  Application

Industrial microwave ovens are a modern technology used in drying processes. They can also be used for the wood drying process.

Wood is a naturally moist material and must have certain moisture content. Therefore, a drying process is necessary, in which the wood must be brought to the desired moisture content. The wood drying process improves the quality and extends the life of wood products.

Industrial microwave ovens speed up the wood drying process and save energy. These ovens are equipped with special sensors that control the moisture content of wood products and use microwave energy to bring the moisture content to the desired levels. During the drying process, the wood products are heated by the microwave energy and the moisture evaporates. Microwave ovens work faster and more efficiently than conventional drying methods.

Industrial microwave ovens also preserve the quality of wood products. In traditional drying methods, wood products crack and change shape. However, since the drying process of microwave ovens is faster, wood products can be dried with less risk of deformation.

As a result, industrial microwave ovens are a modern technology used in the wood drying process. These ovens speed up the drying process, save energy and maintain the quality of wood products.

Dielectric Heating

Microwaves overcome this disadvantage once again and prevent excessive drying of the surface layer, which would otherwise act as a heat insulator. High-frequency energy affects the depth of the material. Moisture is pushed out by the heat gradient, which creates a water pump mechanism independent of the thermal conductivity (which is usually low for wood). In general, drying is done at low temperatures. Although raising the temperature can accelerate drying, the maximum drying rate is limited by the properties of the material.

Dielectric heating operates in the radio frequency spectrum and microwave region. Drying provides good uniformity and is relatively versatile. To avoid creating internal stresses and reducing the calibre of the final product, the process must be sufficiently gradual.

Microwave Wood Drying Systems

We have produced specialised microwave systems for laminated veneer lumber (LVL), among other wood products. Numerous wood products and related materials can be produced using microwave heating. There are numerous procedures involving heating or drying, and microwave energy is used to replace more conventional ovens fuelled by oil or gas. Our industrial microwave systems are widely utilised in the processing of LVL timber.

Advantages

The use of industrial microwave ovens in the wood drying process provides many advantages:

  • Fast Drying: Microwave ovens evaporate the moisture of wood products quickly. It works faster than traditional methods and shortens the drying time of the products.
  • Energy Saving: Microwave ovens consume less energy than conventional ovens. The faster drying process saves energy.
  • Less Deformation: Traditional drying methods can cause deformation of wood products. However, since the drying process of microwave ovens is shorter, the risk of deformation of wooden products is reduced.
  • High Quality: The drying process of microwave ovens preserves the quality of wood products. Cracks and deformations are less common in products.
  • Less Labour: Microwave ovens require less labour than traditional methods. Since the drying process is faster, labour costs are also reduced.
  • Precise Moisture Control: Microwave ovens are equipped with sensitive sensors for moisture control. In this way, the desired moisture content of wood products can be obtained more accurately.

These advantages are important reasons why industrial microwave ovens are used in the wood drying process.
